❓ What is Whisper?
Whisper is a peaceful, anonymous chatroom. No account or email is required. You simply join, get a unique permanent name, and start talking. It's designed for quiet, uninterrupted conversation.
❓ Do I need an account?
No. Whisper requires no registration, email, or personal information. You are assigned a random, unique name and avatar when you first visit. Your identity is saved locally on your device, so you keep the same name next time.
❓ Is it truly anonymous?
Whisper does not collect any personally identifiable information. We don’t ask for names, emails, or phone numbers. Your messages are tied only to a random user ID stored in your browser. However, absolute anonymity cannot be guaranteed against sophisticated adversaries or legal requests – we encourage responsible use.
❓ How long are messages stored?
The server keeps only the 500 most recent messages in memory. Once new messages arrive, older ones are permanently deleted. There is no long‑term message archive.
❓ Can I share files?
Yes. You can upload and share files up to 10MB in size. Files are temporarily stored and automatically removed after a short period.
❓ Can I get notifications?
Whisper supports optional push notifications. When you allow notifications, your browser will alert you about new messages even if the tab isn’t focused. You can revoke this permission at any time in your browser settings.
❓ Can I use Whisper offline?
Whisper is a Progressive Web App (PWA). When you install it on your device, it can launch as a standalone app. However, real‑time chat requires an internet connection. Offline support is limited to the app shell – you won’t be able to send or receive messages without a connection.
❓ Is there moderation?
Yes. The room administrator can delete messages and send announcements. The goal is to maintain a peaceful environment. Users who spam, harass, or post illegal content may be blocked.
❓ Is there an age restriction?
Whisper is not intended for children under 13 years old (or under 16 in the European Union). By using the Service, you confirm that you meet the minimum age.

Yes, completely free. No hidden costs, no premium tiers.
❓ How do I install Whisper as an app?
On Android or Chrome desktop, look for the “Install” or “Add to Home Screen” option in your browser menu. On iOS, use the “Share” button then “Add to Home Screen”. Once installed, Whisper opens in its own window, like a native app.
❓ Can I use the same identity on different devices?
No. Your identity (name and avatar) is stored locally in your browser. If you switch devices or clear your browser data, you will be assigned a new, random identity. There is no cross‑device sync.
❓ How do I report abuse?
If you see a message that violates our terms (harassment, spam, illegal content), please contact the operator via Discord (see above). The admin will review and take appropriate action.
